Google Chrome logo Google launched a new web browser today. It is called Google Chrome. It is supposed to be a complete re-thinking of how web browsers are built and how they should work. Google released a comic that describes the new web browser.

According the the Google press conference, the Google Chrome download should be available at 2pm Central time (noon pacific) September 2, 2008.

  • Chrome is multi-process
  • Built from scratch
  • New javascript interpreter named V8
  • Fully open source (Chromium project)

If you are having trouble launching Google Chrome and are getting an error message similar to…
chrome.exe - Application Error --------------------------- The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.
The most likely problem is that you have Symantec Endpoint Protection installed.
Uninstalling Symantec Endpoint Protection, and reinstalling Google Chrome should fix the problem.

chrome has hiccups on the 64-bit machines… you can’t get to the options panel. It gives you a wonderful oops error prior to crashing. So if you are cursed with a “special” 64-bit processor defaults is all ye get for now!
